Jorge Parellada

Metairie, LA

Jorge was born in Santiago de Cuba, a province of Cuba. He came to the United States in 1963, leaving his country for one he and his wife could find freedom and a better life. From Miami where they spent just few days, they moved to New Orleans, their new home for their children.

He has been drawing since the age of four, and living across a theater, he used to copy some of the signs advertising their new movie attractions without even been able to read them. Self-taught and with some art lessons by mail and books, he got familiar with pencil, ink, watercolor, acrylic and oil.

From the artist:

I believe that art should stand without any explanation although sometimes it does not reflect the intention of the painter. This is what I try to communicate with my paintings, but if I do not obtain this result; I hope to inspire some joy when looking at my artwork.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to participate in this kind of pleasure.
